Updated: 23 October 2026. This guide explains the UPSC recruitment-result compilation published for September 2026. It is separate from the Civil Services, CDS, NDA and other examination results.
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has published a compilation of recruitment cases finalised during September 2026. The Press Information Bureau (PIB) announced the results on 21 October 2026 and linked a six-page official PDF listing 17 recruitment cases. The cases cover specialist, scientific, teaching, engineering and consultant posts across central government organisations and Union Territory administrations.

What has UPSC announced?
This is a monthly compilation of recruitment cases, not a single competitive-examination result. The commission records posts for which recruitment cases were finalised during September. The six-page document identifies each post, the relevant advertisement or item number, the office or department, and the recommended candidates or the recorded outcome.
The distinction matters because the headline can easily be mistaken for a new Civil Services Examination result. It is not the UPSC Civil Services Preliminary or Main Examination result, nor is it the CDS or NDA written result. Those examinations have separate notices and candidate instructions. This release concerns direct recruitment to a range of advertised posts.
Which posts are covered?
The official PDF contains 17 cases. The main categories include:
- Scientist-B (Documents) at the Central Forensic Science Laboratory under the Directorate of Forensic Science Services, Ministry of Home Affairs.
- Assistant Director Grade-I posts under the Office of the Development Commissioner, Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), across specialisations including Chemical, Food, Hosiery, Leather and Footwear, and Metal Finishing.
- Assistant Director Grade-II posts under the MSME framework in Chemical, Food, Hosiery, and Leather and Footwear specialisations.
- Assistant Professor (History) at Jawahar Lal Nehru Rajkeeya Mahavidyalaya under the Andaman and Nicobar Administration.
- Lecturer posts in Zoology and Urdu under the School Education Department of the Union Territory of Ladakh.
- Associate Professor posts in Electrical Engineering (Energy System) and Civil Engineering (Environmental Engineering) at the College of Military Engineering, Pune, under the Ministry of Defence.
- Consultant Biochemistry and Consultant Forensic Specialist posts under the Department of Health and Medical Education, Ladakh.
This list is a summary of post categories, not a substitute for the full document. The advertisement/item number in the PDF is important because similarly named posts may relate to different recruitment cases.
How to check the official result PDF
- Open the official six-page PDF from PIB.
- Locate the post title and the advertisement or item number associated with the application.
- Check the recommended-candidate list under that exact recruitment case. Do not search only by a common name; verify the roll number or other identifying detail shown in the document.
- Read any remarks attached to the case, including notes about reserved posts for which no candidate was found suitable.
- Keep a copy of the result document and follow any individual communication from UPSC or the concerned department.
The PIB announcement says recommended candidates have been informed individually by post. Therefore, candidates should not treat this monthly compilation as the only communication they may receive. Follow the directions in the original advertisement and any formal communication from the commission or recruiting department.
Important point: a recruitment case is not the same as a vacancy count
The PDF lists 17 recruitment cases. That does not mean there were only 17 vacancies or that exactly 17 candidates were recommended. Several cases list multiple recommended candidates, while others record that no suitable candidate was found for a particular reserved post. The number of cases, the number of advertised posts and the number of recommended candidates are different measures.
The document includes examples where no candidate was found suitable for a post reserved for a Person with Benchmark Disability, Scheduled Tribe or Economically Weaker Section candidate, depending on the case. Readers should consult the remarks against the relevant item rather than assume that the same outcome applies to every recruitment.
What candidates should do next
If your application relates to one of the listed posts, compare the official PDF against your advertisement number and post title. If your name or roll number appears in the recommended list, keep the result and wait for or follow the formal communication from UPSC or the concerned department. The recommendation entry itself should not be interpreted as proof that all appointment formalities are complete.
If your name does not appear, check that you are reading the correct recruitment case and that the result relates to the correct advertisement. The PIB release states that applications of other candidates were considered, but it was not possible to call them for interview or recommend them for the post. For any case-specific clarification, use the official UPSC recruitment channel rather than unofficial social-media contacts.
Background: UPSC direct recruitment
UPSC is a constitutional body whose functions include conducting examinations and making recruitment-related recommendations under the applicable framework. Not every recruitment handled by the commission follows the same examination pattern. Some posts may involve shortlisting, interviews or other selection stages specified in the advertisement. The relevant advertisement and recruitment rules determine eligibility, selection method and subsequent formalities.
This is why a monthly recruitment-result PDF should be read as an administrative result document, not as a universal merit list for all UPSC aspirants. Candidates preparing for general competitive examinations can use it to understand the variety of specialist posts recruited through UPSC, including scientific, technical, academic and professional roles.
Exam relevance and static GK
For UPSC and State PSC general awareness, remember the institutional distinction between UPSC’s examination results and direct recruitment cases. The September compilation includes roles connected to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of MSME, Ministry of Defence, the Andaman and Nicobar Administration and the Union Territory of Ladakh. The College of Military Engineering in Pune is listed under the Ministry of Defence, while the Assistant Director IEDS cases are linked to the Development Commissioner (MSME).
Because this is a result notice, a practice-MCQ section is not included. The priority is to locate the correct recruitment case and understand what the official document actually confirms. For other result updates, see Daily GK Update’s Competitive Exam Results Hub, Latest Articles and Current Affairs Hub. The site also carries separate updates for the UPSC CDS II written result and the UPSC NDA and NA II written result; these are different notices.
