India Post specifically says candidates applying under this schedule must register afresh. Registration numbers generated under previous GDS schedules are not valid for this engagement.
GDS Job Nature
GDS positions are civil posts outside the regular civil services of the Central Government. The Department states that GDSs generally work four to five hours a day and are governed by the Gramin Dak Sevaks (Conduct and Engagement) Rules, 2020, as amended.
Before You Apply
- Read the current GDS notification and state/circle vacancy details.
- Confirm the prescribed educational qualification and other conditions.
- Complete fresh registration before 19 September.
- Submit the application and fee, where applicable, before 21 September.
- Use the correction window only where permitted.
Why This Recruitment Matters
With 23,757 vacancies and 10th-standard eligibility as the core educational level for GDS recruitment, this is one of the largest currently listed central-government recruitment opportunities for school-level candidates. Selection and merit conditions are governed by the official GDS notification.

Important Status Note
The application deadline stated in this article is for the India Post GDS Schedule-II, July 2026 cycle. The registration/application window described above is a historical recruitment snapshot. Candidates should use the current India Post GDS portal for any later schedule instead of assuming that the September 2026 dates remain open.
What Makes GDS Recruitment Different?
Gramin Dak Sevak engagement is not identical to a conventional graduate-level competitive examination. Candidates should therefore focus on the notification’s educational qualification, local-language conditions, age rules, community-wise vacancy details and the method used for shortlisting. The exact terms of engagement are governed by the applicable GDS rules and the current schedule notification.
Before Applying to a Future GDS Cycle
- Check whether fresh registration is required.
- Verify the circle/state and post-wise vacancy data.
- Read the qualification and local-language requirement carefully.
- Check age eligibility and category relaxation.
- Follow the current notification for fee, document and correction rules.
Exam-Relevant Static GK
For competitive exams, connect GDS recruitment with the Department of Posts, India Post’s postal network, the Ministry of Communications and the role of rural postal services. This provides lasting study value even after a specific application window has closed.
