Daily Current Affairs 6 October 2026: IMC 2026, Household Travel Survey, AI Vision SoC, Cheetah Population and India-Switzerland Outcomes

Daily Current Affairs for 6 October 2026 brings together developments in telecom, official statistics, semiconductor technology, wildlife conservation, inland-waterway trade and international economic cooperation. The focus is on figures, institutions and concepts that can be revised for competitive examinations rather than on a simple news digest.

1. India Mobile Congress 2026: Telecom Moves from Connectivity to Digital Infrastructure

What happened?

Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia reviewed preparations for India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2026 at Yashobhoomi, Dwarka, ahead of its inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 8 October 2026. The theme is “Scale Without Boundaries”.

The government expects more than 1.5 lakh attendees, 500+ exhibitors and partners, 600+ startups and 900+ thought leaders. The event is also expected to feature 2,000+ technology use cases, 120+ sessions and 700+ investor meetings.

Why it matters

IMC connects telecom with 5G/6G, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, startups, digital public infrastructure and investment. The scale figures are useful for banking, SSC and general-awareness questions.

Background and static GK connection

India Mobile Congress is associated with the Department of Telecommunications and the wider telecom ecosystem. Yashobhoomi in Dwarka, New Delhi, is a major venue for national and international conferences. Digital infrastructure supports digital payments, cloud services, IoT, AI applications and public digital platforms.

Key facts

  • Theme: Scale Without Boundaries
  • Venue: Yashobhoomi, Dwarka, New Delhi
  • Expected attendees: 1.5 lakh+
  • Exhibitors/partners: 500+
  • Startups: 600+
  • Thought leaders: 900+
  • Technology use cases: 2,000+
  • Investor meetings: 700+

2. National Household Travel Survey 2025–26: A New Data Window on How India Moves

What happened?

The National Statistics Office released the National Household Travel Survey, July 2025–June 2026. It is the first all-India household travel survey of its kind and provides data on commuting and household overnight journeys.

The survey covered 14,274 villages and 10,377 urban blocks and collected information from 4,92,023 households covering 20,34,371 persons.

Key findings

Two-wheelers were the predominant mode for workers commuting to fixed workplaces, accounting for 42.6% of workers. For household overnight journeys, buses accounted for 55.8% and railways 17.7%.

Around 87.6% of students reach educational institutions within 30 minutes, while 83.4% of workers commute to fixed workplaces in less than 30 minutes. Average monthly expenditure on commuting to a fixed workplace was ₹785 per worker.

Why it matters

Mobility data affects urban planning, public transport, fuel demand, road investment and household expenditure. It is also a good example of how official statistics can move beyond headline economic indicators into everyday economic behaviour.

Static GK connection

The National Statistical Office (NSO) functions under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI). In examinations, distinguish a survey’s reference period, geographical coverage, sample size and headline indicators.

3. Project VeerAI: ₹130 Crore Support for an Indigenous AI Vision SoC

What happened?

The Technology Development Board under the Department of Science and Technology signed an agreement with Bengaluru-based BigEndian Semiconductors for ₹130 crore of support under the Research Development and Innovation Fund.

Project VeerAI has a total project cost of ₹260 crore. It aims to develop a camera-focused AI Vision System-on-Chip (SoC) on a sovereign technology platform and move the technology from Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 5 to TRL 9.

Why it matters

A vision SoC combines specialised processing for camera and image workloads. Indigenous capability in such systems is strategically important because critical applications increasingly depend on secure, specialised semiconductor technology.

Static GK and exam connection

TRL measures technology maturity. Moving from TRL-5 toward TRL-9 represents progression from validation toward a system proven in an operational environment. The project also uses Optional Convertible Debt as its support instrument. These details connect science and technology with government innovation finance.

4. India’s Cheetah Population Reaches 60 After Five Cubs Are Born at Kuno

What happened?

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change reported that an Indian-born cheetah gave birth to five healthy cubs at Kuno National Park. India’s cheetah population consequently reached 60.

Why it matters

The cheetah programme is a major wildlife restoration effort. The key concept is reintroduction: establishing a species again in an area where it had disappeared, supported by translocation and breeding.

Static GK connection

Kuno National Park is in Madhya Pradesh. Exam questions can connect it with Project Cheetah, protected areas and wildlife conservation. Candidates should distinguish the cheetah from other large cats and remember that it is the world’s fastest land animal.

5. India–Japan Joint Crediting Mechanism: Climate Cooperation Gets an Operational Manual

What happened?

India and Japan launched an Operational Manual for the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM), providing a framework for cooperation around emission-reduction projects and mitigation outcomes.

Why it matters

The JCM links bilateral diplomacy with climate policy, carbon markets, emissions reduction and technology transfer. It is useful for international relations and environment questions.

Static GK connection

Japan’s capital is Tokyo and its currency is the yen. India’s capital is New Delhi and its currency is the Indian rupee.

6. Dibrugarh–Dhaka Cargo Movement: Brahmaputra Re-emerges as an International Freight Link

What happened?

A barge carrying 540 metric tonnes of methanol departed from Bogibeel Terminal in Dibrugarh for Dhaka, Bangladesh. The vessel DLB Patkai, pushed by the tug Kushal Konwar, was flagged off by Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.

The movement used Brahmaputra National Waterway-2 (NW-2) and was described by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways as the first cargo shipment from upper Assam to a foreign port since Independence.

Why it matters

The route creates an additional logistics connection between the Northeast and Bangladesh. It is relevant to geography, inland waterways, regional connectivity and India’s Act East orientation.

Static GK connection

National Waterway-2 is associated with the Brahmaputra. Candidates should distinguish National Waterways from seaports and understand the role of inland waterways in moving suitable bulk cargo.

7. India–Switzerland Outcomes: EFTA Investment and Jobs Target

What happened?

During the visit of the President of the Swiss Confederation to India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the India–EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement. India described it as its first free-trade agreement with an economic bloc in Europe.

The stated long-term ambition is to attract $100 billion in investment into India and support 1 million direct jobs over 15 years.

Why it matters

The important examination distinction is that EFTA is not the European Union. The European Free Trade Association consists of Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland.

Static GK connection

Switzerland’s capital is Bern and its currency is the Swiss franc. EFTA membership is a high-value international-affairs fact.
