Daily Current Affairs 4 November 2026 brings together a major internal-security milestone, the Government of India’s scheduled Treasury Bill auction, a new national entrance-exam application window and an urgent UGC-NET correction deadline. The briefing distinguishes official announcements from scheduled activities and gives candidates the primary links needed to act.

1. CRPF records 12 months without an operational fatality

The Central Reserve Police Force completed 12 consecutive months without an operational fatality, a period last achieved in a comparable interval 47 years earlier. CRPF Director General G. P. Singh said the last operational fatality was recorded on 30 October 2025 and the previous such period ended in January 1979. Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the milestone on 3 November.

The term is operational fatality, not zero injuries or zero deaths from every cause. The CRPF continues to perform internal-security duties in several operational theatres. The development is relevant to UPSC GS-III internal security, Centre–State coordination, personnel protection, training and medical evacuation.

The MHA’s Left Wing Extremism Division states that India achieved LWE-free status on 31 March 2026, while emphasising consolidation, prevention of resurgence and sustainable development in erstwhile affected districts. Its cumulative figures since 2014 include a reduction from 126 LWE-affected districts to zero, 16,653 cadres arrested, 10,645 surrendered, 1,929 killed in encounters, 8,029 arms recovered, 837 security camps established and 615 fortified police stations constructed. These are different administrative indicators and should not be treated as one annual total.

2. Government Treasury Bills: ₹23,000 crore auction scheduled for 4 November

The Finance Ministry’s quarterly Treasury Bill calendar, issued in consultation with the Reserve Bank of India, schedules a ₹23,000 crore auction on 4 November 2026, with issue date 5 November. The notified split is ₹8,000 crore in 91-day T-Bills, ₹8,000 crore in 182-day T-Bills and ₹7,000 crore in 364-day T-Bills. The calendar is subject to modification by the government/RBI after notice.

Treasury Bills are short-term Government of India securities with maturities of less than one year. They are generally issued at a discount to face value and redeemed at face value; the difference represents the investor’s return. The three standard maturities—91, 182 and 364 days—are frequently tested in banking awareness, economy and public-finance questions. Do not confuse the auction date with the issue/settlement date.

The calendar also provides for weekly auctions on 11, 18 and 25 November and 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30 December, each with the same notified ₹23,000 crore split unless revised. The schedule is not a guarantee that every amount will remain unchanged.

5. Science update: Aditya-L1 VELC reconstructs an asymmetric solar eruption

A DST/PIB release on 3 November reported that Aditya-L1’s Visible Emission Line Coronagraph (VELC), combined with NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory imaging and three-dimensional modelling, revealed non-uniform expansion of a coronal mass ejection observed on 5 August 2024. Doppler shifts in the 530.3-nm iron emission line helped distinguish plasma moving towards and away from the observer. The result improves scientific understanding of CME geometry and possible space-weather arrival-time estimates; it is not a prediction of a damaging storm. Read the Aditya-L1 VELC science explainer for payload facts, Doppler shift, L1 and exam relevance.
