Which fields can be corrected?
Annexure-I to the official notice sets out the permitted and restricted fields. Read it before editing:
- Not permitted: mobile number, email address, permanent/present address, uploaded photograph and uploaded signature.
- Name fields: a candidate may change any one of Candidate Name, Father Name or Mother Name—not all three.
- Examination city: city preferences may be changed based on permanent and present addresses. NTA is not bound to allot a city according to preference.
- Other permitted fields: date of birth, gender, category, sub-category/PwBD (where not verified by the UDID portal) and subject, as specified in Annexure-I.
How to complete the correction safely
- Open ugcnet.nta.nic.in and use the UGC-NET December 2026 correction facility/candidate login.
- Check the application preview against certificates and the Information Bulletin. Do not assume a field is editable unless it appears in the permitted list.
- Make all required corrections carefully. The notice permits only one submission; once submitted, the form is frozen.
- If the correction triggers an additional fee, pay it by Credit/Debit Card, Net Banking or UPI. A correction requiring payment takes effect only after successful fee payment.
- Save/download the final confirmation or corrected application and retain the payment receipt, if applicable.
Fees already paid are not refundable. Candidates should not share passwords, OTPs or application credentials with third-party agents.
What is UGC-NET used for?
UGC-NET determines eligibility of Indian nationals for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), appointment as Assistant Professor and admission to Ph.D. programmes in Indian universities and colleges, subject to the applicable rules. NTA conducts the examination; the eligibility and appointment/admission decisions are governed by the relevant UGC/university framework.
