Daily Current Affairs | 7 November 2026 | UPSC, State PSC, SSC, Railway, Defence and other exams

This edition focuses on official announcements published on 5–6 November and developments reported for 7 November. It prioritises factual details, policy context and exam connections instead of a list of headlines.

1. Semicon 2.0 portal opens applications for three pillars

On 6 November, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw launched the Semicon 2.0 web application portal for Pillars 2, 3 and 4 under the Semicon India Programme. The pillars cover machines and materials, setting up more fabs, and strengthening the ATMP/OSAT industry. Applications are now live for these areas.

The same announcement approved 12 additional applicants under the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS), with projected investment of ₹7,503 crore, projected production of ₹39,045 crore and 7,127 expected direct jobs. The approvals cover 10 target product segments and span seven states; nearly half the approved units are from the MSME sector, according to PIB. These are projections—not realised production or jobs.

2. Open-market rice sale target raised to 50 LMT

The Government doubled the OMSS (Domestic) rice sale target for 2026–27 from 25 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) to 50 LMT. It reported 25 LMT sold through e-auctions up to 31 October 2026. The revised target is five million tonnes; reported sales to the cut-off are 2.5 million tonnes.

OMSS is a stock-management and market-supply instrument involving foodgrains held by the Food Corporation of India. It is separate from the regular foodgrain entitlements under the National Food Security Act. A target increase does not itself prove a fall in retail prices; market impact depends on actual lifting, demand, distribution and other supply conditions.

3. India’s space-debris vision: debris-free space by 2030

PIB reported on 5 November that the Department of Space/ISRO had announced a vision of a debris-free space environment by 2030. Space debris includes defunct satellites, spent rocket stages and fragments from break-ups or collisions. Objects in orbit can threaten operational spacecraft; tracking, collision avoidance, responsible mission design and debris-removal research are relevant mitigation approaches.

India’s space situational awareness work includes tracking and monitoring orbital objects. A debris-free vision should be understood as a policy/technology objective, not a claim that Earth orbit can be cleared instantly or that all debris is currently removable.

4. Indigenous airborne secure radio: IAF–IIT Madras collaboration

A current-affairs compilation for 7 November reports collaboration between the Indian Air Force and IIT Madras to develop indigenous airborne secure radios. Secure airborne communication is essential for command, control and coordination in military operations. Indigenous development can contribute to technology sovereignty, system integration and reduced dependence on imported equipment, while rigorous testing and certification remain central to operational deployment.

5. IndiaAI models and offline Aadhaar verification ecosystem

PIB’s release listing for 3 November recorded indigenous foundation models EKA-1 by Soket and Dhīr 2B and Dhīr 5B by ZenteiQ under the IndiaAI Innovation Centre pillar. Foundation models are trained on broad datasets and can be adapted for multiple tasks; their performance, safety, language coverage and compute requirements must be evaluated rather than inferred from model names.

On 5 November, UIDAI reported onboarding 300 Offline Verification Seeking Entities (OVSEs), expanding the Aadhaar offline verification ecosystem. Offline verification enables identity checks using digitally verifiable credentials without requiring every verification to depend on a live central authentication transaction. It is not equivalent to unrestricted access to Aadhaar data; purpose limitation, consent, security and applicable rules matter.
