Who is eligible?

The vacancy circular states that applicants should be officers working under the Central or State Government, including autonomous bodies, research and development institutions, universities and academic institutions. The stated academic and experience requirement is a postgraduate or doctorate degree, along with a minimum of 10 years’ specialisation in at least one of these areas:

  • Space science
  • Space technology applications
  • Space communications
  • Remote sensing

The maximum age for absorption is 56 years as on the closing date for receipt of the application. Because this is an immediate-absorption appointment, candidates should read the full vacancy circular carefully to confirm their service status, qualification, experience and forwarding-channel requirements. Meeting the headline degree and experience criteria alone should not be treated as confirmation of eligibility.

Application process and address

The official circular directs applicants to submit the application in the prescribed format through the proper channel. It is to be forwarded to:

Under Secretary (Autonomous Bodies)
Department of Space, Government of India
Anthariksh Bhavan, New BEL Road
Bengaluru – 560 094

The circular lists the contact email savitakotgar@isro.gov.in and telephone number 2217 2290. Use the official advertisement and its prescribed bio-data format for the required documents and submission procedure. Since the deadline is for receipt of the application, candidates should not assume that dispatching it on 31 October will be sufficient. Allow time for institutional forwarding and postal delivery.

What is NE-SAC and why does the role matter?

The North Eastern Space Applications Centre is located at Umiam near Shillong in Meghalaya. According to the Department of Space vacancy circular, it is a joint initiative of the Department of Space and the North Eastern Council. Its mandate is to provide developmental support to the North Eastern region through space science and technology.

The centre’s work includes application projects using remote sensing, geographic information systems (GIS) and satellite communication, alongside space science research. These tools can support regional planning and development by turning satellite observations and spatial data into information that public agencies can use. Remote sensing collects information about the Earth without direct physical contact; GIS organises and analyses location-based information; satellite communication enables communications links over wide or difficult-to-reach areas.

The Director’s post is therefore a specialised leadership role in a science-and-technology institution. It should not be confused with a routine technical recruitment drive for ISRO technicians or scientists. The current ISRO recruitment portfolio includes separate notices with different eligibility rules and application windows, including URSC Technician and Driver recruitment and SDSC SHAR recruitment. Those are separate opportunities and should be checked independently.
