2. India–Republic of Korea: 10th Joint Committee Meeting on defence industries
India and the Republic of Korea held the 10th Joint Committee Meeting on Defence Industries and Logistics Cooperation in New Delhi on 29 September 2026. The meeting reviewed bilateral cooperation and discussed ways to expand engagement in defence production and logistics. 3. Chandrayaan National Meet 2026: connecting lunar science with future missions
ISRO’s National Meet on Scientific Exploration of the Moon through Chandrayaan Missions is being held from 28 to 30 September 2026 at the Laboratory for Electro Optics Systems (LEOS), Bengaluru. ISRO reported about 150 registered participants, including 75 participants from Indian academia and research institutions representing more than 45 institutions. The event also involves 36 students actively pursuing lunar research.
The meet reviews scientific contributions from Chandrayaan-1, Chandrayaan-2 and Chandrayaan-3 and discusses future missions. The most important future-mission association is Chandrayaan-4, described by ISRO as India’s first lunar sample-return mission, and Chandrayaan-5/LuPEX, the India-Japan collaborative effort with JAXA focused on lunar volatiles including water ice near a permanently shadowed region.
Why sample return matters
Remote sensing and in-situ instruments can study material on the lunar surface, but a sample-return mission brings selected material back to Earth. Researchers can then use larger and more sophisticated laboratory instruments. This changes the scientific value of the mission and makes sample selection, landing, ascent, rendezvous and Earth-return operations critical engineering problems.
