Daily Current Affairs 3 October 2026: Asian Games Gold Rush, Kautilya Economic Conclave, RELIEF & Ladakh Update

3 October 2026 | Daily Current Affairs

Today’s edition is built for revision, not for headline collection. It focuses on developments from 2 October that have clear value for SSC, Banking, UPSC, Railways and Defence preparation, along with the economic event beginning in New Delhi on 3 October. Each item is tied to a number, institution, person or factual detail that can be revised later.

What happened?

India had a major medal day at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on 2 October. The country added 10 medals — six gold, two silver and two bronze — taking its overall tally to 76: 16 gold, 25 silver and 35 bronze. The Indian women’s hockey team defeated China 1–0 in the final to win the Asian Games title. India also collected gold in women’s recurve archery, three boxing categories and men’s freestyle wrestling.

Elsewhere, the Government extended Component II of the RELIEF export-support intervention amid continuing logistics disruption in West Asia. The fifth Kautilya Economic Conclave begins in New Delhi on 3 October under the theme Resilience in an Age of Flux. The Ministry of Home Affairs announced standard names for 28 places and geographical features in Ladakh on the Survey of India map. INS Trishul reached Valencia, Spain, during its overseas naval deployment.

Why it matters

These are not isolated headlines. The Asian Games story gives several athlete-event-medal combinations for static and current GK. RELIEF connects current affairs with ECGC, export insurance and trade finance. Kautilya Economic Conclave links current economic policy debates with fiscal policy, capital markets and central banking. The Ladakh announcement has a direct geography and mapping connection, while INS Trishul brings in maritime diplomacy and India-France naval cooperation. PMEGP adds a banking-linked employment and MSME angle.

Background

The 2026 Asian Games are being held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, and are the 20th edition of the continental multi-sport event. The Kautilya Economic Conclave was first convened in 2022 and the 2026 edition is being organised by the Institute of Economic Growth with the Ministry of Finance. RELIEF was launched in March 2026 as a time-bound response to higher freight, insurance and logistics risks affecting exports. The Ladakh map exercise concerns standard geographical naming, while INS Trishul’s port calls form part of India’s wider naval engagement with partner countries.

1. Asian Games 2026: India adds six gold medals

The strongest sporting result was the women’s hockey final, where India beat China 1–0 for gold. The result ended a wait of more than four decades for the women’s Asian Games hockey title. For exam preparation, the useful memory chain is India – China – 1–0 – women’s hockey – gold.

India’s other gold medals on 2 October came from a wide spread of disciplines. The women’s recurve archery team of Ankita Bhakat, Kumkum Anil Mohod and Kirti defeated South Korea 5–3. In boxing, Ankush won the men’s 80 kg title, Parveen won women’s 65 kg, and Lovlina Borgohain won women’s 75 kg. Sujeet Kalkal won the men’s freestyle 65 kg wrestling gold.

The 2026 Games are hosted by Japan. Static facts linked with the event are: capital Tokyo, currency Japanese yen, and Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.

2. Kautilya Economic Conclave 2026

The fifth Kautilya Economic Conclave is being held in New Delhi from 3 to 5 October under the theme Resilience in an Age of Flux. The conclave is an initiative of the Institute of Economic Growth and is organised in partnership with the Ministry of Finance. More than 180 participants are expected, including over 80 international participants from around 30 countries.

The programme covers macroeconomic resilience, fiscal federalism, industrial policy, capital markets, development finance, trade fragmentation, artificial intelligence, labour and skills, climate resilience and the role of central banks. Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan is scheduled to inaugurate the event; Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra are among the key participants. The Institute of Economic Growth was founded in 1952 by economist V. K. R. V. Rao.

For Banking and UPSC candidates, the value lies in the institutional connections: Ministry of Finance with fiscal policy, RBI with monetary and financial stability, and the conclave with wider questions around economic resilience.

3. RELIEF: export support extended

The Department of Commerce has extended Component II of RELIEF — Resilience & Logistics Intervention for Export Facilitation, a time-bound measure under the Export Promotion Mission. The intervention responds to continuing disruption in West Asian maritime logistics.

The headline figure is 95%. Eligible exporters can receive 95% ECGC risk coverage for specified shipments under the applicable cover arrangements. The support includes Full Container Load, Less than Container Load and reefer containers; energy shipments are excluded. The government also said the premium for eligible exporters should not exceed the level prevailing before the disruption. RELIEF was launched on 19 March 2026.

This is an important Banking Awareness topic because it combines export credit insurance, risk mitigation, logistics costs and trade finance. Candidates should remember the acronym, the department involved and the 95% coverage figure.

4. Ladakh: 28 places and features given standard names

The Ministry of Home Affairs announced that 28 places and geographical features in Ladakh have been identified by standard names on the official Survey of India map, in consultation with the Union Territory administration. The list spans different feature types, including peaks, passes, glaciers, a valley, a lake and a river.

Examples include Atisha Giri, Kanishka Peak, Zorawar Peak, Parpik Glacier, Skamri Glacier, Chapchingal Pass, Shachmirk Pass, Shkorga Valley, Guru Rinpoche Lake and Yangpa River. This makes the announcement a useful geography revision point because an examination question can test the feature type as well as the institution associated with official mapping.

5. INS Trishul reaches Valencia, Spain

INS Trishul, described by the Government as a frontline guided-missile stealth frigate, arrived at Valencia, Spain, during its continuing deployment to the Mediterranean, Atlantic and adjoining regions. The port call includes professional interactions, cross-deck visits and sporting and cultural engagements with the Spanish Navy.

The ship had earlier participated in the 24th edition of Exercise Varuna with the French Navy at Toulon. The exam connection is therefore broader than the ship’s name: revise INS Trishul, Spain, the Mediterranean deployment and the India-France Varuna naval exercise.

Country facts: Spain — Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, capital Madrid, currency euro. France — President Emmanuel Macron, capital Paris, currency euro.

6. PMEGP: the banking and employment link

The Ministry of MSME highlighted the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) on 2 October. The programme supports new micro-enterprises in the non-farm sector through margin-money subsidy linked to bank-sanctioned loans and is implemented by the Khadi and Village Industries Commission.

Since FY 2014–15, the Government reports assistance to around 8.12 lakh micro entrepreneurs through ₹24,398.61 crore in margin-money subsidy, with employment generation for about 73.08 lakh persons. For Banking exams, remember the relationship between PMEGP, KVIC, bank finance and margin-money subsidy rather than treating the scheme as a standalone acronym.

Exam relevance

Banking: ECGC, export-risk cover, RELIEF, PMEGP, margin-money subsidy and central-bank themes at Kautilya Economic Conclave.

SSC: Asian Games edition and host, medal winners, Survey of India, Ladakh features, PMEGP and important government acronyms.

UPSC: export resilience, trade disruption, fiscal and monetary policy, geographical naming and maritime diplomacy.

Defence/Railways: INS Trishul, Exercise Varuna and India’s naval engagement with partner countries.

Static GK connection

Link today’s current affairs with four static areas: the Asian Games and Olympic Council of Asia; Survey of India and national mapping; ECGC and export credit insurance; and PMEGP/KVIC in the MSME and employment-generation framework. These institutional pairings are more useful for revision than memorising isolated headlines.
