Preliminary Examination – 2026 Pattern
For IT Officer, Agriculture Field Officer, HR/Personnel Officer and Marketing Officer, candidates should prepare English Language, Reasoning and Quantitative Aptitude together with the post-specific Professional Knowledge component notified for SPL-XVI.
For Law Officer and Rajbhasha Adhikari, the non-professional section differs according to the notified structure. Candidates must use the official post-wise table rather than applying a single generic SO pattern to every post.
Main Examination – Focus Areas
The Main examination places major emphasis on Professional Knowledge for the selected specialist post. The 2026 notification also introduces a broader examination structure than the older 60-question, 45-minute model commonly found in legacy study material. Candidates should therefore practise from SPL-XVI-aligned material and the official notification.
IT Officer
Revise database management, operating systems, computer networks, data structures, software engineering, information security, programming concepts and emerging technology relevant to banking systems.
Agriculture Field Officer
Cover agronomy, soil science, horticulture, irrigation, agricultural economics, animal husbandry, agricultural finance, crop insurance, KCC and major government agriculture schemes.
Law Officer
Focus on banking-related laws, contract and negotiable instruments concepts, company and regulatory law, recovery and security interests, compliance and current legal developments relevant to banks.
HR/Personnel Officer
Prepare human-resource management, industrial relations, labour law concepts, training and development, performance management, recruitment and organisational behaviour.
Marketing Officer
Cover marketing principles, market research, consumer behaviour, branding, digital marketing, relationship marketing, product strategy and banking-sector marketing.
Rajbhasha Adhikari
Prepare Hindi-English translation, terminology, grammar and official-language usage, along with the post-specific examination requirements in the notification.
Preparation Strategy for the Remaining 2026 Cycle
- Use the SPL-XVI notification as the primary syllabus and pattern document.
- Allocate a fixed daily block to Professional Knowledge; do not postpone domain preparation until the final weeks.
- Practise timed objective questions and analyse accuracy by topic.
- For descriptive components applicable to your post, practise concise answers within the notified format and time.
- Link specialist knowledge with recent banking, technology, agriculture, legal and regulatory developments where relevant to your post.
Why Older IBPS SO Pages Can Mislead
Previous recruitment cycles used different question counts, timings and stage structures. A candidate who prepares from a legacy 2018–2025 pattern may therefore allocate time incorrectly. This page intentionally treats historical cut-offs and older formats as reference material rather than as the current SPL-XVI pattern.
